"What is it like to live in a resort?"
Oftentimes, when you mention resort, the things that people often think about are relaxation, calm, nature, relaxation and more relaxation. One can only imagine of sipping juice from a straw with those tiny umbrellas sticking out. Every time you need something, you just have to call room service. The people are always pleasant and you feel like you're in a part of the world that's magical.
There are people playing the guitar as you have dinner, singing your favorite ballads. Anytime you just want to lie down and take a nap, you can and nobody would care at all. The thing is, that's most specially not the case if you live in it and maintain it.
What it Feels Like
1. As a kid, my mom would sometimes ask me to trim our lawn. It took me half a day to do it for a few square feet of grass. Let me emphasize that, few square feet of grass and half a day.
Imagine how it would feel like if you have several thousand feet of grass - and not just those cute little Bermuda or Blue grass mind you, WILD GRASS.
2. Do you struggle when it comes to bill paying time?
You could probably imagine paying the bills for two houses. Oh yeah, how about three houses? Let's make this short, imagine paying the bills for several houses and the pool.
3. Sometimes you have guests and friends who would come over. You usually clean up the house after they leave right?
Imagine having to clean many houses, before, during and after guests arrive.
4. Don't like washing the dishes?
Imagine having to wash dishes for 10 guests. Imagine 50 guests - that's just 50. It should be more right?
Still, I'm not complaining, I'm #justsaying.
5. Cute animals
People would go "Cool! Wow! It's a giant lizard. Mommy, can we keep it? Can we keep it?"
Whereas, I would call my wife and tell her to give me my machete....
Anyway, these are the least of the worries that accompany the ownership of a resort.
Lately, my kids and I have taken a fancy to playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 by Chris Sawyer. Any 90s computer geek would be familiar with the game. Sometimes, I wished it was that easy. Click on the bank icon, and out pops a cool $1,000. Click again to build a road, plant some trees, market your park and so on and so forth.
